Executive Update Forum
Many business owner understand and live with the truism - "it's lonely at the top".
They can't talk to their staff about some issues relating to the company,
Don' t want to go to Sydney or Melbourne to learn about a new idea at high cost, especially if they don't know anybody else whose using the idea,
Wonder if there is a better way of doing something.
Executive Update Forums are designed to help.
They provide a private and confidential forum where members can examine management ideas to understand their essence, and whether the ideas are relevant to their particular situation. Ideas are critically tested by group participants. Members are also free to bring up any particular issue affecting them and seek feedback from the group. You don't have to reinvent everything and can gain from the collective experience of other group members.
Membership is restricted to business owners or general managers, with one one person for any industry. This allows members to discuss issues common to small to medium business in confidence knowing they are in no danger of giving away commercial confidences.
The Forums are structured but there is plenty of interaction between members. There are three key areas:
General business conditions Topical updates since last meeting, issues where a
member would like some group input.
Common business areas Discovering how each member tackles a common
business issue eg computer security, insurance
coverage, staff induction programs
Special topics of Interest Specific management ideas are presented, usually by
selected guest speakers. In 2003/4 the group has
covered topics are diverse as "The Balanced Scorecard",
e- commerce, male health issues, risk management.
As part of the interaction, regular lunches with guest speakers are organised and held at the Adelaide Club.
The forums are designed to minimise time out so they run for half a day per month,
every 2nd Tuesday starting at 8.30 am and finishing at noon. Participants come straight to the forum, refreshed and raring to go but have time to get back to work in the afternoon.
