MENTORING

Mentoring is one of the ways in which an experienced consultant can provide assistance, guidance and support for a senior business executive.  However, Mentoring doesn’t just happen. To be successful for all concerned, it mast be planned and agreed between the parties. 

A Mentoring Program typically includes the following characteristics:

§            The Mentor works with an individual in a one-on-one situation.

§           The Mentoring program specifically focuses on one, significant issue and aims to find and implement an appropriate solution to that issue

§           During the course of the Mentoring program regular and frequent contact is maintained between consultant and executive.

§           The role of the consultant is as a guide, offering a voice of experience, but requiring that the executive take responsibility, make the decisions and do the work.

§           The mentoring program is very definitely outcomes focused.

§           Because of its specific focus, the mentoring Program is usually for a short term only.

Ideally, the mentor should have extensive experience in a broad range of industries, and managerial functions.  The three SBA consultants have all held senior management positions, from front line management to CEO positions.
